A graduate of this University or any other recognized University who has obtained appropriate Bachelor's degree with at least a Second Class (Upper division) or Master degree (or equivalent) may be admitted for the degree of Master of Philosophy. The candidate with a Master's degree must have a GPA of at least 3.50 in the grading system or at least 2.50 in the grading system in use before 1990/91.

Admission into the degree programme of Master of Philosophy in French will be open to:

(i)            Candidates must hold a Master's Degree of a CGPA of between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 5 point scale in any of the designated specialties of Music from the University of Lagos or any other approved University, or a First Class Bachelor's degree in Music or Creative Arts.
(ii)           Satisfy the Department in a selection process and

(d)           Doctor of Philosophy in Theatre Arts

(a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Medical Physics

The M.Phil. programme shall be open to candidates having:
(i)            A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physics with a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) of the University of Lagos or equivalent qualifications of other Universities recognized by the Senate of University of Lagos,
(ii)           An M. Sc degree of at least a GPA of 3.50 or its equivalent in Medical Physics of a University recognized by the
Senate of University of Lagos.

(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Medical Physics

The Ph.D. programme shall be open to candidates having M.Phil. or equivalent in Medical Physics, or M.Sc.. Medical Physics of at least a GPA of 4.00.

(a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Physiology

The programme is open to candidates:
(i)            with M. Sc of at least a GPA of 3.50 in Physiology or B.Sc.
(ii)           with at least Second Class Upper Division degree in Physiology.

The programme is open to candidates with M.Phil. in Physiology. Candidates with M.Sc Physiology by course-work at the appropriate GPA level are also eligible.

2. Candidates who already possess a Master degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry are required to make up for their deficiencies by taking prescribed courses in addition to a minimum of nine units at 900 level.

(ii)           Candidates who  possess a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honour in Physics from the University of aos or from any other approved University.

Candidate should indicate his/her proposed area of specialization (as in the case of M.Sc. Physics)

(ii)           An M.Sc degree or equivalent in Physics, Geophysics of this or any other approved University with CGPA of between 4.00 and 5.00 on a five point in Physics or Geophysics.

(a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Marine Sciences or Fisheries

Candidates must hold:
(i)            Either a Masters Degree of at least a CGPA of 3.50/5.0 in any of the designated specialties of Marine Sciences or Fisheries from this or any other approved University, or a First Class or Second Class Upper Division degree in Biological Sciences and related disciplines from this or any other approved University.
(ii)           Satisfy the Department in a selection process and satisfy other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
               
(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Marine Sciences or Fisheries
Candidates must hold:

                Admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme in Physics is open to  candidates who possess the M.Sc in Physics from the University of Lagos or from any other approved University and who have minimum cumulative grade point
37.          (a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Mathematics or Statistics
The M.Phil and Ph.D. degree progrmames in Mahematics or Statistics are research-oriented and are open to candidates who satisfy any of the following:

To qualify for admission to the M.Phil programmes, a candidate must possess:

(i)            A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized University, with at least a Second
Class (Upper) Division or
(ii)           A Master of Science degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized University with a minimum
CGPA of 3.50.

(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Mathematics or Statistics

(i)            A Master of Science Degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized University with a minimum CGPA of 4.00.
(ii)           A Master of Philosophy degree in Mathematics or Statistics or any other approved related field from a recognized University with a minimum CGPA of 4.00.

1. (a)   Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Architecture

1. Candidates of this or other approved University who have obtained a Bachelors degree with minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division), or its equivalent in Architecture or any other disciplines.
2. Master’s degree at the appropriate level or equivalent provided the Bachelors Degree is not below Second Class (Lower Division) Honours;
3. Senate may admit to the M.Phil degree programme other persons who hold such qualifications as may from time to time be recognized by Senate.
4. Satisfy all other requirements of School of Postgraduate Studies

(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Architecture

1. A Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Architecture from this University or its equivalent.
2. A Masers degree by coursework at the appropriate GPA level, from this or other approved  University.

(a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Estate Management

The programme is available to graduates of the University of Lagos or any other accredited University who possess:
(i)            A Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Estate Management.
(ii)           A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree with a minimum of a Second Class (Upper Division) in Estate Management or any of Urban and Regional Planning, Building and Quantity Surveying.

In addition, candidates must submit a research proposal not exceeding 500 words on the basis of which they shall be assigned to supervisors based on merit and availability of space.

Candidates may be required to undergo a selection process.
In addition, candidates must satisfy all other admission requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Estate Management

Candidates must possess a minimum of:

1. A Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Estate Management from the University of Lagos or other accredited Universities.
2. Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Estate Management from the University of Lagos or other accredited University with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.0 on a 5-point scale.

(a)           Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Building

(i)            A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division), or equivalent in Building and  Quantity Surveying.
(ii)           A good M.Sc in Construction Management or equivalent with GPA of at least 2.50 on a scale of 5.00 in the grading system in use before 1990/1991 session or 3.50 in the grading system after the 1990/1991 session.
(iii)          Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.

(b)           Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Building

(i)            An M.Sc. Construction Management or equivalent with a CGPA of at least 2.79 in the grading system in use before 1990/1991 or 4.00 in the grading system after the 1990/1991 session.
(ii)           An M.Phil. or equivalent in Construction Management

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Adult Education       

                The Department offers courses leading to M.Phil./Ph.D degree in the following specialized areas:

1. Adult Literacy and Non-Formal Education
2. Community Development and Social Work
3. Man-power Training and Development Education
4. Adult Education Management

Admission Requirements

(i)            Candidates who already possess the M.Ed in Adult Education, with a CGPA of at least 3.50, and
(ii)           Candidates who already possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Education with at least a Second Class Honours Upper Division.

For  Ph.D.

(i)            The M.Ed. Degree in Adult Education with the minimum CGPA of 4.00

Master of Philosophy/Doctor of Philosophy Educational Foundations

M. Phil/Ph.D.. Degree.
The Department offers courses leading to M.Phil./Ph.D. degree in the following specialized areas:

(c)           Measurement and Evaluation
(d)           Philosophy of Education
(e)           Sociology of Education
(f)            Comparative Education

Entry Requirements:
(i)            Candidates must possess the Masters Degree in Education with appropriate CGPA (See General Requirements) in a specialized area from this University or any other recognized University.
(ii)           Candidates, in addition, must perform satisfactorily in the qualifying examination.

                All Candidates for M.Phil/Ph.D. must consult the Department for availability of supervisor before applying.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Human Kinetics & Health Education in
the following areas of specialization:

(a)           Sports Administration and Management

Candidate must first register for Masters degree with its research oriented Master degree, and must have passed with GPA of not less than 3.50 and above at Masters Level.
However M. Phil candidates who wishes to specialize in any area must have obtained Masers degree in the area of specialization.
