Message From The Vice Chancellor

"The knowledge industry is a vast area of human endeavour loaded with invariant learning stages, which the University of Lagos acknowledges to be like starting a mansion with one building block after another. The School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos was established by the Senate of the University in 1981 to coordinate and develop academic and professional programmes geared towards the high level manpower needs of Nigeria. Today, the School runs many programmes leading to Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees and other professional Masters Degrees courses in over sixty-two Departments in various fields of human endeavour.

This allows for considerable choice and flexibility, and provides a clear intellectual and professional focus tailored to students’ needs and aspirations in the world of work and life-long learning. The School also offers Postgraduate  Diploma courses in various specialist fields that could easily provide a route to Masters degree for those students who may not be qualified for direct entry into Masters programmes.I quite appreciate the fact that the challenges of  pursuing an advanced course of study are considerable, especially for  students and staff candidates in today’s pressurized world. However, the expert support and advice offered by our team of highly qualified post-graduate teachers will help students to meet these challenges. Our teaching and research have made significant impact in over thirty-five years of our existence.

The School of Postgraduate Studies also has numerous linkages with many foreign universities in Africa,  Europe, United States of America, Asia etc for the purposes of collaborative research efforts and staff/students, exchange programmes.  Furthermore, the University of Lagos has an expanded VSAT, which facilitates staff and students access to the Internet. Its value is greater for our postgraduate scholars.  It is my hope that this Abridged Prospectus of the School of Postgraduate Studies will be of immense assistance and a reference material to all those who require information on our postgraduate programmes.
