CDPGS ends meeting at Delta State University (DELSU) calls for compulsory local content for Organised Private Sector

Committee of Deans of Postgraduate Schools in Nigeria (CDPGS) has called for a policy on compulsory local content and capacity building in research and development for the Organized Private Sector (OPS) and Multinationals.
The committee made the call after its 36th meeting at Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State.

The Committee said the organized private sector should become more involved in partnership and collaboration with the Universities and Research Centres in the development of postgraduate training and research.
This it believes would be more effective if the government makes it compulsory that organizations in the OPS should ensure local content in their production and capacity building as it is in the oil and gas sector.

In a communiqué signed by the honorary Secretary of the Committee, Professor Toyin Ogundipe, the committee called on the government to consider a substantial increase in budgetary allocation to postgraduate research and training to a minimum of five percent of the GDP as obtained in the recent developed economy. It also called on Postgraduate Schools in   Nigerian Universities to dedicate 20 percent of the internally generated revenue to postgraduate research and training.
